Rural Minority Students: A Challenge For Assessments Personnel
A disproportionate number of minority students from rural areas are categorized as having learning disabilities, according to a recent study. Researchers from Mississippi State University suggested that an overly broad system for identifying students for special education is to blame. They noted that a formula used in many states to determine reasons for the discrepancy between students' IQ and achievement be adjusted to include more rigid assessment criteria.
