This fact sheet analyzes data from the National Survey of Children’s Health to determine how family and neighborhood risks relate to a child’s involvement in out-of-school time activities and programs. A majority of past research in this area examines family risks and neighborhood risks separately; however, this fact sheet looks at both types of risks by analyzing data for children ages 6 to 17. The fact sheet compares data on children from high-risk and low-risk families and on children from low-, medium-, and high-risk neighborhoods.
