Broken Bonds: Understanding and Addressing the Needs of Children with Incarcerated Parents
This report contains strategies for meeting the needs and overcoming the obstacles facing children with incarcerated parents are explained through a review of available empirical research. The report examines the scope of the problem; changes in daily life -- living arrangements, parent-child relationship, and financial circumstances; emotional and behavioral impact; protective factors -- relationship with parent before and during incarceration and support from family, caregivers, and members of the community; and recommendations.
