Law Enforcement

Engaging local law enforcement in a positive and productive manner in school safety initiatives can improve the safety of schools and their surrounding neighborhoods. This Snapshot describes the strategies Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) communities have employed to successfully partner with law enforcement to achieve safer school environments and positive school climates. These strategies include shared leadership, thoughtful safety assessment and planning, and increased linkages between the school and community. The successes of these SS/HS communities can serve as a model for other school districts and communities and exemplify the valuable role law enforcement can play in making schools safer.
