Publisher:
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Education Development Center, Inc.

This webinar convened Gulf coast superintendents and mental health professionals for a 75 minute Virtual Town Hall Meeting to discuss the behavioral health impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on students, their families, and school staff.

The interactive webinar provided an overview of new behavioral health resources school districts can use to help children, their families, and school staff manage their distress such as the Oil Spill Distress Helpline and Website as well as templates for schools to use including press releases and letters to parents. Education and mental health professionals from the affected school districts also had the opportunity to share what they were seeing on the ground as far as effects in their schools, as well as offer their input on additional resources that would be useful in their communities. A recording as well as the PowerPoint presentation are available below.
