Behavioral Health Services for Rural Immigrants

Date/Time (ET):
March 19, 2009 - 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Led By:
National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention

During this event, presenters discuss the findings from a report on rural America from the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire, "New Immigrant Settlements in Rural America: Problems, Prospects, and Policies."

Following the presentation by author Leif Jensen, Ronald Manderscheid discusses implications for the behavioral health of children and families living in rural America and links this with what we are learning about determinants of health and the Healthy America 2020 Report. Participants are encouraged to share experiences, lessons learned, opportunities, and challenges to help rural communities overcome barriers to the accessibility, availability, and acceptability of mental health services and supports.
