An around-the-clock helpline is available for those feeling overwhelmed or overly anxious about Hurricane Isaac's approach. The Metropolitan Crisis Response Team - always available for substance abuse or mental health crises -- is manning its phone lines throughout the storm.

Dr. Karen DeSalvo, the city's health commissioner, said Tuesday that feelings of depression or anxiety are not uncommon in the midst of an elongated storm like Isaac. Clinicians can be reached by phone 24 hours a day at (504) 826-2675.
