Eligible Applicants: To be eligible for a grant under this competition, an applicant must be an eligible organization (as defined in this notice). For purposes of Absolute Priority 3: Promise Neighborhoods in Tribal Communities, an eligible applicant is an eligible organization that partners with an Indian tribe or is an Indian tribe that meets the definition of an eligible organization.

The Promise Neighborhoods program is carried out under the legislative authority of the Fund for the Improvement of Education (FIE), title V, part D, subpart 1, sections 5411 through 5413 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended (20 U.S.C. 7243-7243b). FIE supports nationally significant programs to improve the quality of elementary and secondary education at the State and local levels and to help all children meet challenging State academic content and student academic achievement standards. Applications for grants under the Promise Neighborhoods Program (Implementation grants), CFDA Number 84.215N, must be submitted electronically using the Governmentwide Grants.gov Apply site at www.grants.gov.Telephone number: 1-800-513-4617. You may access the electronic grant application for Promise Neighborhoods Planning Grant Competition at www.Grants.gov. You must search for the downloadable application package for this competition by the CFDA number. Do not include the CFDA number's alpha suffix in your search (e.g., search for 84.215, not 84.215P). On April 20, 2012, the Office of Innovation and Improvement in the U.S. Department of Education published in the Federal Register (77 FR 23690) a notice inviting applications for new awards for fiscal year (FY) 2012 for the Promise Neighborhoods planning grant competition (2012 Planning Grant NIA). This notice corrects an error in the deadline for transmittal of applications. DATES: Deadline for Transmittal of Applications: July 27, 2012.
