This initiative advances knowledge for innovative approaches to the prevention or management of obesity in children less than six years of age.  Research should consider the role of families in the initiation, support, and reinforcement of fundamental food and beverage consumption, physical activity practices, and sedentary behaviors.  The overarching goal of this initiative is to identify interventions that influence parent and child behaviors that contribute to inappropriate weight gain, and thereby improve subsequent health status in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
