January, 2010 This article reviews the literature on the experience of Somali immigrant children and their lives at school. A semi-structured, open interview provides insights into the historical and personal backgrounds of Somali children. Data explores issues of language acquisition, religion and familial connections in relation to their schooling experience. Suggestions are offered to educators for improving the educational experience for Somali children and families.
