Technology in Safe Schools

Date:
August 5, 2009 - 2:00pm - 3:15pm
Presenter(s):
Bradley Linville (Osceola, FL) and John Rosiak

Research on school climate and connectedness has found that in order to create a positive learning environment, students must feel both physically and emotionally safe from harm. In addition to drug and violence prevention strategies and mental health services, SS/HS sites are employing a variety of security technologies to help students feel and be safe. This session outlines the variety of technologies available, including surveillance equipment, metal detection, entry-control devices and alarms, ID technology, emergency notification systems, school COP software, readiness and emergency management tools, and technology to help students with disabilities.
