Attendance improvement is one of the central objectives of every SS/HS project. The Hillsboro, OR School District had remarkable success in (a) improving attendance, (b) reducing tardiness, (c) reducing truancy, and (d) reducing dropout rates by systematically applying the Attendance Audit Model. The intervention involved self-assessment, planning, training, implementation, and support. Lessons learned about how to overcome barriers and achieve successful implementation will be discussed.
